Date: 10/15/97 Weapon: 300 Winchester Mag Distance: 250+ yards Place: Colorado Scene: We camped in a tent and hunted from the back of a 4-wheeled drive pickup. We'd start at daylight and hunt 'til around mid morning, eat lunch, and then go again. We covered lots of ground and put in a lot of time and it took all 5 days to finally get my bull. We got up the last day and decided to hunt 'til noon before we would have to pack up and head home. Around 7:30 that morning, we were calling some elk way off and heard one bugle real close. We moved to where we could see him and got about 250 - 300 yards from his massive rack. I blasted him with the 300-win mag. It was quite a moment when all the hard work and preparation came together. |
