A friend of mine, David Gaston, who is a long
time 'para'
sailor sent me these photos from some of his exploits on the high
seas. He is one of the leaders of a group called P.O.I.N.T. which
stand for People On Independent Nature Trips and promotes sailing
among other activities like kayaking and handcycling as rec opportunities
for physically challenged folks.
There are a multitude of adapted sailboats and cat's that allow one or more persons to manage the vessel from a stationary spot. There is even a disabled USA Sailing team that competes in olympic races against other countries.
Of course, a quad
adapted boat is not going to require much more than the standard
design, and most little obstacles are overcome by simply taking
the time and work necessary to to something you really want to
do.
Sailing and boating are some of the quickest ways to get mobile without really being too mobile. The controls are generally hand operated to begin with, and once you've worked out how to get yourself on and off and how to maintain stability, the water's edge is the limit.
